READ ALL OF  THIS PROCEDURE SEVERAL TIMES SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.  DO NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUT OF ORDER.  THIS WILL RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

TOOLS NEEDED:

  1. 13 mm end wrench

Parts needed:

  1. Gasket and Deflector plate

Procedure for removal/install

  1. Disconnect Negative and positive Battery terminal connections as shown on Battery Removal page (steps 1 and 2 only).

  2. Lift up the VW using Lifting Rear procedure page

  3. Use the procedure listed on Engine Removal page.

  4. Remove the Doghouse using Alternator Removal or Generator Removal procedure (steps 4 to 7)

  5. Once the Alternator/Generator is removed, using a 13mm end wrench remove the 4 nuts holding down the stand.

  6. Remove the old gasket and Deflector plate

  7. After removing the stand from the engine case, clean the surface of the engine case and stand with a brass wire brush to remove all of the old gasket.

  8. Reinstall gasket and deflector plate as shown in the photo

  9. Place the Stand on to the engine

  10. Hand tighten down the nuts till snug.

  11. Tighten the nuts down using only one turn at a time then go to the next nut. this will ensure even pressure on the stand, gasket and deflector plate. (uneven tightening will cause the stand to leak after about 6 to 10 months)

  12. Torque the nuts down to spec as shown in Torque Specs.

  13. Install the alternator and doghouse using Alternator Installation (steps 3 to 6).

  14. In the case of a Generator, install generator and doghouse using Generator Installation Procedure (steps 3 to 6)

  15. Install belt and pulley to alternator or generator

  16. Torque down the nut  to spec as shown in Torque Specs.

  17. Use the procedure listed on  Engine Installation page.

  18. Lower the VW using Lowering procedure page.

  19. Reconnect Negative and positive Battery terminal connections as shown on  Battery Installation page.
