You will need a FLAT surface to complete this repair for your safety.

READ ALL OF  THIS PROCEDURE SEVERAL TIMES SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.  DO NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUT OF ORDER.  THIS WILL RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

TOOLS NEEDED:

  1. Flat Blade screwdriver

  2. 8,10,13,17, 19 mm wrench

  3. 8,10,13,17,19mm socket 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive

  4. 1/2 or 3/8 drive ratchet

  5. Engine dolly (not required but VERY helpful)

  6. Floor Jack (4000 lbs. capacity)

  7. 2 jack stands

  8. 2 Wheel Chocks

  9. Tire iron or "Tire Star"

  10. Clutch Alignment Tool or a Pilot Shaft

  11. A second person (very helpful, but not required)

Procedure for Installation

  1. Slide the engine under the VW.

  2. Slowly raise the engine to be even with the transmission.

  3. Install the two lower nuts from the transmission to engine. Then install the upper two Bolts. Torque bolts

  4. Add new engine oil using the Oil Change procedure (Steps 5 - 9 only)

  5. Be sure to reconnect all electrical connections on the engine.

  6. Lower up the VW using Lowering Procedure.

  7. Reconnect Negative and positive Battery terminal connections as shown on Battery Installation.

  8. After filling with 3 quarts of oil, START the engine.

  9. Check for leaks, under the VW and around the engine.
