The history of Air cooled VW starts with Dr. Ferdinand Porsche and not with Adolph Hitler. Many people think it was all Adolph Hitler's idea. WRONG!  Dr Ferdinand Porsche was the one that created the first VW Beetle in 1932.  Hitler DID place his support and the money of the German Government behind Porsche to built the Wolfsburg plant in 1937 and continued to fund VW until 1945.  England restarted the plant in 1947.
