  • READ THE BENTLEY or HAYNES MANUAL FIRST!

  • You will need a FLAT surface to complete this repair for your safety.

  • READ ALL OF  THIS PROCEDURE SEVERAL TIMES SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.  DO NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUT OF ORDER.  THIS WILL RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

  • Read our Safety page too.

Now for the inside!  The Pan is one place that rusts like mad.  There are a couple of options here.  One is to cut out the rust spot plus an additional half inch all around the affected area.  Then weld in a new piece of steel with a MIG welder.  Oh, you don't have a MIG welder and don't know how to use one anyway?  Well, the second option is for you.  Buy a Pan half and have it welded in.

The insulation used on the pan must be removed because it causes rust in the pan.  Replace the tar/Styrofoam insulation. Replace with cut to shape plastic sheeting or perforated plastic (we will put up pictures of this).   Doing this will let your carpet breathe without rusting the pan.  Or if you prefer the "thin" look, slats of Teak or lattice work used on climbing vines will work fine, too.  If you use this make sure that it is treated for waterproofing.  Durability over time is unknown to us, since most people prefer to let their pan rot out.  Another option is to buy a convertible and only driving it in good weather.
