Fuel Tank Removal - JEEP

  • READ THE JEEP SERVICE MANUAL FIRST!

  • You will need a FLAT surface to complete this repair for your safety.

  • READ ALL OF  THIS PROCEDURE SEVERAL TIMES SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.  DO NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUT OF ORDER.  THIS WILL RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

TOOLS NEEDED:

  1. 9/16 Socket (3/8 or 1/2 inch drive)

  2. 1/2 drive break over bar

  3. 3/8 or 1/2 drive ratchet

  4. Various Extensions for ratchets

  5. 1/4 inch nut driver or Straight (slotted or "Prince") screwdriver

  6. Multiple shop towels (least 15)

  7. lineman dikes or wire cutters

  8. Floor Jack (4 ton)

  9. 2 Jack stands (4 tons capacity)

Procedure for Tank removal

  1. Drive or drain fuel tank until the fuel gauge shows EMPTY

  2. Raise the passenger side of the vehicle at the rear jacking point.

  3. Place jack stands under the both axles close to the spring shackles.

  4. Use a Jack to hold the tank up and to allow you to slow lower the tank.

  5. Remove the Rear strap bolt that hold in fuel tank

  6. Disconnect all hoses and vacuum lines from tank

  7. Tie up all of the electric wiring and hoses to prevent damage upon removing the tank.

  8. Disconnect the fuel line for the tank

  9. Remove the front bolt holding the strap.

  10. Lower the tank fully.

  11. Remove the fuel tank visa the passenger side of the vehicle.

  12. Place tank in a safe place and position
