Taillight lenses

Translate this page      using FreeTranslation.com

On the 73 - 79 VW Beetle there are two different types of taillights.  One with metal (133-945-231 left and 133-945-232 right) and one with plastic (no number possibly Mexico or Brazil part or aftermarket) backing plates.

Not only are there different backing plates but different lenses and the two will not interchange.

The interchange problem is a design difference as show below.  Also shown with green circles are the real problems with interchange.:

Legend:    1 - Metal  2 - plastic

Now it is possible to cut to fit the metal pieces inside the lens.  But is best to get the right part in the first place.

Soon Dave is going to try to cut the plastic lens to fit on to the metal backing plates.  We will see IF it works!
