  • READ THE BENTLEY or HAYNES MANUAL FIRST!

  • You will need a FLAT surface to complete this repair for your safety.

  • READ ALL OF THIS PROCEDURE SEVERAL TIMES SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.  DO NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUT OF ORDER.  THIS WILL RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

TOOLS NEEDED:

  1. Floor Jack (4000 lbs. capacity)

  2. 2 jack stands

  3. 2 Wheel Chocks

  4. Tire iron or "Tire Star"

Procedure for Lifting

  1. Remove hub caps on rear axle with a screwdriver or tire iron

  2. Break loose all lug bolts on tire(s)

  3. Chock front tires. 

  4. Place floor jack in center of the beam when lifting the rear of the VW.   

  5. Jack up the vehicle to a height of a comfortable level for you to crawl underneath

  6. BEFORE getting under the VW: On the rear place the Jack stands under the jack hole on BOTH sides

  7. Remove all lug bolts and place them in the hub cab.

  8. Remove the tire from the Brake Drum.
