You will need a FLAT surface to complete this repair for your safety.

READ ALL OF  THIS PROCEDURE SEVERAL TIMES SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.  DO NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUT OF ORDER.  THIS WILL RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

TOOLS NEEDED:

  1. 3 quarts of oil (weight of oil depends on your climate)

  2. oil drain pan

  3. 19mm combination wrench

  4. 19mm socket

  5. 10mm socket

  6. 3/8" drive ratchet

  7. oil change gasket kit

  8. Floor jack

  9. Wheel chocks

If your VW does not have a 19mm drain bolt, then you must pull the sump cover.

 

Procedure for oil change

  1. Lift the VW using Right Side Lifting Procedure

  2. Slide Oil drain pan under the VW until directly under the sump cover.

  3. Using the 19mm socket or 19mm combination wrench, unscrew the bolt from the sump cover.

  4. Allow oil to drain fully.

  5. Clean up the Drain bolt using a rag.

  6. Place small drop of oil of threads of Drain bolt before installing the bolt.

  7. Screw in the bolt into the sump cover and tighten down. BE SURE THE BOLT IS TIGHTEN DOWN BEFORE ADDING OIL TO YOUR VW!

  8. Pour oil into the oil Filler Neck under the Alternator/Generator.

  9. After filling with 3 quarts of oil, START the engine.

  10. Check for leaks, under the VW and around the engine.

  11. Lower your VW using the Lowering Procedure Page
