There are many special tools that are needed to do repairs to your VW.  Most of these tools will be expensive, but are required to complete some procedures.

Below is a list of special tools and (when possible) manufacture and part number.

  1. Ball Joint remover (OTC #7065)

  2. Flywheel locks

  3. 1/2 drive torque wrench

  4. 3/4 drive Torque wrench

  5. Impact Driver

  6. Clutch alignment tool or Pilot shaft

  7. Pilot shaft/Flywheel oil seal remover

  8. Flywheel oil seal press

  9. Oil relief piston remover

  10. 17mm Allen wrench

  11. Battery Load tester

  12. Internal pipe wrench (Snap on #PWN-32-1")

  13. 8 Point 5/16" socket

  14. Distributor driver shaft remover

  15. Starter Bushing remover (12 volt)

  16. Starter Bushing installer (12 Volt)

  17. Engine Dolly

  18. Crank pulley remover

  19. Oil pump remover (type 1, 2 [up to 1970] and 3)

  20. Spark plug feeler gauges

  21. Feeler gauges

  22. Brass wire brush for cleaning spark plugs

  23. Long and narrow carburetor adjusting screwdriver

  24. Feeler Gauges

  25. Dash tool for removing hazard headlight switches

  26. Spark Plug wire checker w/light

  27. Continuity Tester

  28. Timing light

  29. Clear Distributor cap for check points and operation

  30. Battery SIDE post pliers

  31. TOP post connector spreader

  32. Digital Voltmeter (DVM)

  33. Battery connector puller

  34. Tach and Dwell meter

  35. 10mm nut driver

  36. 8mm nut driver

  37. Special made bar to attach to bottom studs of the engine to remove and torque Flywheel nut
