You will need a FLAT surface to complete this repair for your safety.

READ ALL OF  THIS PROCEDURE SEVERAL TIMES SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.  DO NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUT OF ORDER.  THIS WILL RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

This procedure is different from the one listed in the Bentley Manual

TOOLS NEEDED:

  1. Flat Blade screwdriver

  2. 8,13,17, 19 mm wrench

  3. 8,13,17,19mm socket 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive

  4. 1/2 or 3/8 drive ratchet

Procedure for installation

  1. Install the 36mm nut on the squirrel cage Torque down nut

  2. Install the generator pulley.

  3. Install the generator  in the Doghouse. Install all four bolts. Torque down bolts

  4. Tighten the Alternator/Generator stand and bracket. Torque down nut

  5. Install the 10 mm bolts to the bolting point at the point in which the Doghouse and the cylinder tin are bolted together. Then slide the engine under the VW . Torque down bolts

  6. Install the belt. Tighten the belt to the generator pulley.  Torque down nut

  7. Use the procedure listed on  Engine Installation page.

  8. Lower the VW using Lowering Procedure page

  9. Reconnect Negative and positive Battery terminal connections as shown on  Battery Installation page.
